so is your character the kind of person who'll just pop some ramen on the stove and just eat it without doing anything special or do they pretend like it's goddamn Chopped and they have to make a masterpiece despite the fact that they only have carrots, eggs, ramen, and a lil bit of soy sauce in the house
john used to not give a shit abt it when making his ramen, but once he tried to make Fancy Instant Noodles with some shit around the house and now he can't turn back. it takes him like 20+ minutes to make goddamn instant ramen but he doesn't care. his patience will reward him (with delicious foods)

Dave hosts his own cooking show once the game ends. Titles of said episode from his youtube include "we are cooking this fucking spaghetti i swear to god" "lalonde watches in awe as i master the art of eggs" "fierce red blood gets bent over table and forcefed ham" and of course, "you know i had to do it to em"

Sollux- Can't cook for the life of him. Mainly eats soylent on a day to day basis to get by. Maybe indulge in his sweet/sour tooth and have some sour patch kids or something but overall? No cooking skills at all. The kind of guy who will skip making instant ramen and have the noodles uncooked.
Dualscar- Prides himself in his cooking skills. It's one of the few things he can do without loosing his cool and is somewhat therapeutic for him. High standards for food, won't buy instant /anything/ and will make things from scratch, though cheating and buying pre cooked noodles and things like puff pastry is fine.
Aradia- Enough cooking skills to get by. Isn't winning any competitions by any means but can still pass as a cook of some sort. Mainly makes simple meals and picnics, or things she can grab on the go. Crock pot kind of gal for sure.

Cronus taught himself to cook to woo girls, and in the process found that he was 1) pretty good at it and 2) pretty into it. Also, he's a vain fucker so being able to better control his calories/fat/protein intake is probably pretty appealing to him.

Dirk is the only one that knows how to properly cook more than a single dish, but he tends to hyperfocus on measuring out exact ingredients and plating things so they look PERFECT.

I don't have cooking headcanon, actually - and this isn't even entirely about the character *I* play. But if I rp Eridan in Humanstuck being raised by Cronus because Dualscar was often absent, then I'll be sure to mention Eridan reminiscing the trauma of being fed microwavable burgers for a week straight by his older brother when he was at the tender age of 13. And hating every second of it.

GHB can't cook to save his life, especially not meats (which he's learned to just eat raw anyway) BUT he can bake virtually any kindof cake, biscuit and dessert you could ask for
not that you SHOULD ask, he'd probably eat you.

Dave: Can cook bread and pasta. That is it. Everything else will burn John: Belongs in the kitchen Karkat: A disaster in the kitchen. Egg ends up on the ceiling. No one knows how. Kankri: Need's to follow a recipe otherwise his food ends up catching on fire. Gamzee: Makes amazing dessert, especially pie. Kanaya: Orders out only Eridan: Can make amazing bbq. Anything else tastes like oily death.

Not only is she too beautiful to eat shitty food, she is also too beautiful to stand in the kitchen for hours upon hours to learn how to cook.

Sollux is actually a really good cook when he can be assed. He just can't be assed most of the time and is perfectly content to subsist on energy drinks and dry ramen noodles mixed with the flavoring powder. He really only busts out his cooking skills for like. Anniversaries and stuff of that importance level.

Rose is quite literally the worst cook of all, but she always blames it on the equipment. By the time she throws out the third blender Kanaya tells her it's time to face facts- you don't have to be good at everything.

My headcanons for Strilonde cooking are vast and complex. I've thought way too much about their food habits. Here's a few.
LASSES:
--Roxy will eat literally anything as long as it's thoroughly cooked. That's the important thing. Food that involves actual seasoning is a wonder and a marvel to her and she's learning to spice things by serious trial-and-error, but under no circumstances will she cook or eat something rare or raw. She's cooked and eaten carapacian. Cat. She'd eat human. With regret, but she'd eat it.
--Rose has a soft spot for fancy plating; designs in sauces, sprigs of herbs on the side, small artfully-arranged portions, and suchlike. Part of it's nostalgia, and part of it is an ironic reference to her posh background and the circumstances she's dealt with since then. The world blew up, have a coulis swirl?
LADS:
--Dirk will happily eat seagull, raw and cooked fish, seaweed, sea anemones, mussels, barnacles, and pretty much anything that swims or flies near an ocean coast. He can butcher a sea lion, though not very well. His cooking techniques are almost solely restricted to microwaving and putting something on a stick over a fire. Dude has no idea what to do with carbohydrates that aren't in soda.
--Davesprite can eat anything. ANYTHING. Junky trash food, food out of the actual trash, carrion, they're all great. He rarely has to cook because there's so many other options, but when he does he'll make a big portion of the easiest thing he can find and let most of it sit around for a while before he finishes eating it.
--Dave's early childhood weirdness with food makes him picky; he likes familiar flavors and those are mostly synthetic Cool Ranch and Flamin' Hot and BBQ and so on. Putting cheap hot sauce on something new makes it taste more familiar, so it goes in pretty much everything.
--Bro likes showing off his blade skills but doesn't care much about the actual cooking. When he bothers to cook instead of getting pre-prepared stuff, it's a bunch of exquisitely air-diced meat and vegetables chucked in a pot and pretty much nothing else. Turn on the burner for a while and it's stew. Kind of. Fuck off.

HERE IT COMES. MY OBSCURE KNOWLEDGE AND HEADCANONS SURROUNDING THE FOOD OF THE AMERICAN SOUTHWEST HAVE BECOME RELEVANT.
I don't even play Dave or Dirk, but as a resident of the shitty state from which they hail, I guarantee you that they have both indulged in the delicious Texas phenomena known as tomatillo enchiladas, barbacoa, menudo, and much much more. Particularly Dave, since this is where he was raised, but Houston has a ton of street food and a lot of it falls in the confines of "delicious Tex-Mex." Other than that, I'd bet that Dave cannot cook, mostly because, y'know, his fridge, microwave, blender, and most other appliances were filled with puppets, and when they weren't, what, was Bro going to teach him to cook? What he knows he probably picked up from the Internet.
Kanaya can make curry, but not much of anything else. Because curry is easy. And she sort of likes it. It's a comfort food for her, though, because Human!Kanaya is Indian and her mom made that stuff all the time for her. Aradia can work a barbecue pretty well and can make decent cornbread, chili, and other Southern kinda foods, but none of the really intensive stuff. She won't even touch baking. Latula will not ever be able to cook, and she doesn't care anyways because she can sustain herself on Gatorade and Doritos forever. Eridan can handle some things, like baking prepackaged cookie dough, but most of it falls out of his realm of skill.

Aradia + BBQ sounds like a recipe for Really Intense and Interesting Events. Sollux hides behind the garden chairs as she pour zippo all over the thing. The fire alarm goes off. There's smoke everywhere. And yet, the ribs turn out delicious.

But...god, what is that thing??)
