I'm reading a shitton of Agatha Christie RN and as a result everything coming out of my keyboard is turning into a game of Clue, usually with added vampires bc I'm assembling my armada of Kanaya Fucks Up prompts.
I've tried to RP murder mystery style stuff before with limited success, been taking pointers from my dungeon master and just having a couple of fixed points for a default plot and leaving almost everything else up to discussion as we go but it's a bit frustrating and leaves us wallowing. Anyone managed to successfully do a detective roleplay and if so any other tips 'n' tricks?

mogseltof yes but included a third party. they dont partake in the rp (on cherubplay anyway, they give one person the scene to set with evidence of third person's choice included, on PARP they're usually called Gods Hand or something andneither characters interact with them), they have access to the log and read it as it updates. Basically its all discussed ooc - the murder, the weapon, the suspects etc and the third person decides: The murderer What evidence is at this particular scene If any other murders are committed to help lead you on the way Does more evidence surface? etc etc

So like an external game master roll20 style? It could definitely work especially for case by case basis, it's definitely something I'm gonna run by my offline group. It'll be like playing quidditch all over again 0u0
I'm thinking of working out three or four basic plots with fixed clues/evidence points that can stack if found at different points. The settings closed (small boat in the middle of a week long cruise) so there's not much room for going off the rails settings wise at least.
