i dont know how to make a thread i just wanna start this positivity section off by gushing about my talented rp partners and their apparent mastery of pretty words that make me feel shit

This thread makes me feel SO MUCH BETTER because I always worry when I end up getting poetic and flowery with my writing because I wonder if my partners prefer I just stick to the facts, but I love little turns of phrase that don't really serve any function but to make it sound pretty.

like honestly metaphors are essentially useless other than making a subject more understandable or trying to like
convey an abstract concept i guess? but i love them because they can also be used to convey the most delicate and precise emotional moments
like you can say "Dirk strider was a lonely, lonely man," or you could like, pull out them fuckin metaphors and word choices
and make it absolutely clear to your rp partner /what type/ of lonely this dirk is, because there are like a thousand different types and each ones different
and i /guess/ that shit could seem extraneous? but holy fuck how could i complain when suddenly i get a bone deep understanding of this character

as far as i think about it its like this:

ur pullin the words out because you love your vocab and you just wanna use as many words as you can? _{frankly, that's cool with me because i read my dictionary sometimes when i have spare time and i'm like a trash can. ill accept anything tbh} HOWEVER some people get annoyed by that kind of loquacious bullshit so yknow, it's hit or miss

ur pullin the words out because there's a /specific thing/ you want the rp partner to understand? and like, you need them to get it, and all the words and alliterations and literary devices you use are all because you need them to understand your character's emotional state or whatever the fuck? i dont think anyone could have a problem with that, its beautyifful and wonderful and makes me wanna clutch that ben stiller chest and cry a little

You COULD describe a guy and say he had pretty, angular features and a severe demeanour, or you could say something to the effect of, "He was an architectural wonder made up of steep towers and sharp edges. A perfect construct, intricate at first glance but simple in design and just begging for some woebegone toddler to tear on through and send his beautiful creation toppling." It's roundabout but it pains a much better picture, in my opinion, and I love littering my prompts and responses with that sort of abstract description that conveys the feel more than the facts.
