so like steven universe is my jam and i've written a shitty gemstuck AU wherein john was a half-gem but i've dumped that straight into the garbage bin where it belongs and i want to make another one, scratching out the half-gem part.
except i'm in a jam and idk how to proceed with one little, itty bitty thing. i really don't wanna upset people about having john as a masculine presenting gem that uses 'he/him' pronouns along with 'they/them'. because i know that people do get upset by it.
i fully intend to keep him, as in canon, an agender being, and is definitely not cis--cis being i would just straight up say he's male, which he wouldn't be, because he's a genderless rock that only looks masculine, so i'm not gonna do that and wouldn't do that in the first place.
in the end i'm kind of a baby that doesn't want to accidentally bother someone, or worst case scenario, get people hounding on me or connecting to this prompt to chew me out constantly.
so basically, to me, i think i have three options.
1) don't write the damn prompt and save myself the trouble.
2) write the prompt and have john use, interchangeably, 'he' and 'they' pronouns, while making it explicitly clear that he's not a MALE gem, and only appears masculine. then, possibly get chewed out/get vagued about/upset people.
3) write the prompt and have john use only 'they' pronouns and again make it very clear he is not a male gem and prevent people getting upset about a gem using 'he/him' prounouns. with this one, there's the problem of people not grasping that this iteration just uses 'they' and nothing else, making this entire thing pointless once they refer to john as 'he' (and also upsetting my nonbinary ass, like people have before when i've tried to refer to john as 'they')
but yeah what do y'all have to say about this. because i really want to write this prompt, but i don't want any drama or anything to come out of it.

Honestly, I would go with option 2- because I've actually seen a few gemstuck prompts before, and they haven't had a trouble just using he/him and she/her pronouns exclusively for gems and, when I took them at least, bluntly saying their gem is male or female (even if that's not really canon??), so using he/him and they/their interchangeably should get the point across that he is an agender blue space person
Or just kinda slap it in the OOC? That works too- "I'll be playing John as masculine presenting agender"
Either way, good luck!!

Masculine presenting agender If its au im guessing john takes the place of steven who goes by he/him even if he himself doesnt really scream your typical masculine expectation (he's such an oddball, he cried about snakes he's precious). Depending on who you wanted i'd be down for rping this tbh
I was tempted to ask about dolorosa because hey, they had canon interaction
