Wow this title is shit.
Anyway, I'm not going to talk about NSFW/E rps here, because the answer to this should be obvious, don't rp NSFW/E with minors, jeez.
But when you're having a SFW rp, and find out that your partner is a minor - how do you react? I know a lot of us adults feel more comfortable roleplaying with people our age. But let's say, you found out about it way after the rp started. You feel a bit uncomfortable, but you're really enjoying the rp. What do you do?
Personally I still stick around, try to get over the awkwardness. Those rp are totally SFW, even if they're not "happy go lucky yeepee cute shipping, everyone is happy". I feel like disconnecting because of my partner's age would be like, kind of alienating them? But then again I'm forcing myself to be extra cautious with my replies. Idk, maybe I'm being a bit of an hypocrite there.

Personally, for me it's a problem of how far our ages are, not necessarily if they're a minor or not. While I'm perfectly comfortable roleplaying something SFW with a 17 year old since it's only three years apart, it's a much bigger issue for me if my partner is, say, 14 because that's six years! That's a long time, and as somebody that's just now turned 20, I want to be cautious of getting involved with people much younger than myself even if nothing illegal is going on just because there are so many ways for older adults to influence younger kids. I'd say 16 is the absolute lowest I'd go when roleplaying anything with a minor, and that will only increase as I get older.

So do you just directly ask for their exact age? How do they usually react to that? I personally think it's way too awkward tbh... I just ask "hey, are you 18+?" personally. I'm scared the person would get offended if I straight out asked for their age lmao.

Usually after the roleplay starts off proper and I'm sure I like their response, I make sure to let them know, "Hey, just for reference in case you wanted to know, I'm [this age] and if that makes you uncomfortable, please let me know right away as your safety is important." This usually prompts people to offer up their own age, and then I can either proceed as usual or let them down gently and disconnect. If they don't offer their age but just say it's okay or whatever, I then try to test the waters by asking, "I hope you don't mind the question, but is it alright if I ask your age, as well? There's no need to share if you're not comfortable, but I'd just like to know for my own comfort's sake."

Ooooooh. That sounds like a much better idea than just be like "yo how old are you anyway. A/S/L r u single lmao"
Shitposting aside I might just take that idea from you, if you don't mind!

You're more than welcome to it! I heavily encourage discussing age with your partners in any case and if my method works for you, then go for it!

If it happens to be the case, I keep it sfw. If they try to get smut, I do as many movies in hollywood did back in the day.
The lights dimmed and a kiss was shared. The night was full of passion, and when _____ woke the next morning, they could hardly believe what happened that night, and rolled over to nudge _____ awake.
Bad example but I decided to watch an entire anime series in 1 night and I havn't slept in 20ish hours so my writing isn't up to par currently. Time skips are wonderful. However, that's for people who are like..16-17. Younger? The characters can kiss. That is about it. If they want to go further, hello disconnect button.
But another thing is that you can tell when someone is a minor because of the writing style. There's a difference between how adults and kids write. Even if the writing is meant to be comedic, you can tell the difference since teens try to be more "random." Adults try to exaggerate the situation and make it more amusing.

I'd say this isn't necessarily true in every case. I know as a younger teen, my writing was always very sober and quote unquote mature, and I have multiple friends as an adult that still text like they're stuck in 2007. It depends entirely on the person, and while there are some general guidelines you can follow to get a feel for somebody's age, if you rely solely on those, they're going to end up leading you astray. That's why it's always better to talk things out and encourage somebody to be honest.

One of my friends who's roughly the same age as me still uses "XD" unironically I give up being able to tell people's age from how they write. If anyone who's a minor asks for smut I d/c, but other stuff I'm generally fine, though I definitely interact with minors in a different way to how I interact with other adults.

If they're a minor (unless they're like a week off not being a minor or something) I disconnect anyway - but that's just my rule of thumb. It takes one off the rocker parent to get you into shit over an rp, even sfw ones, because they could swing it as "grooming" or some bs. Drr hrr the internet is bad fire is scary Thomas Edison was a witch type parents.

It's not always obvious, however it is a very common trend I've noticed. Hell a 16 year old who I rp a very fluffy Johnkat makes me gush with feels every reply. While a 20 year old makes me want to beat my head against a wall every time I see an [unread] near the rp. It's always best to ask regardless.

Yeah, I don't guess people's age by the way they type either. My best friend is 21 and she's like XDDDDDD in every and each of her sentences (please deliver me from her)
